What is Janmashtami and its date about?
As we hear about the name of the festival of Krishna Janmasthami, the image of Lord Krishna spontaneously gets created in the mind temple. The ancient practice of celebrating the festival of Krishna Janmashtami in the form of the birthday of Lord Shri Krishna has been going on for centuries. As by way, every festival in India about the date-timing, Tithi, some discrepancy always remain, that on which day to observe, for example, one date-timing, Tithi falling in two days, then a circumstance of doubt gets created, and for this reason, in some parts of the country, festivity is observed on two days also. Lord Krishna’s birthday comes in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada’s 8th, this day that is called Janmashtami. It is believed-validated that Lord Shri Krishna’s birth happened in Bhadrapada, meaning Bhado month, on the 8th day of the Krishna Paksha, in the Rohini Nakshatra. According to the calculation of the 8th date (Ashtami), then Janmashtami should happen on the 23rd of August only, but if Rohini Nakshatra is regarded, then the 24th of August, day Saturday, Janmasthami should be observed-celebrated. In the night of Janmashtami, it is also called Moh Ratri (night), because by chanting the name of Shri Krishna, the illusion attachment of the world is removed.
How to observe the Janmashtami Vrat, fast?
In the morning, after bathing, wear clean clothes. First of all, bathe the idol of Krishna Ji or Laddu Gopal with Ganga water. After this, bathe the idol with the mixture of milk, clarified butter (Ghee), sugar, honey and saffron (Kesar). Then bathe with pure-clean water. After this, make Laddu Gopal wear beautiful clothes, and do the makeup for him. Worship Laddu Gopal at 12 midnight after gracing, and perform Aarti prayer, after this deliver-distribute holy sweet pudding-food (Prasad). If you are observing Vrat, fast, then the next-2nd day, on the 9th, finish the Vrat, fast.
The breaking of the Janmashtami Vrat, fast – Those observing the Janmashtami Vrat, fast, after completing-finishing of the 8th day, and Rohini Nakshatra, then only the Vrat, fast should be broken. If both are not coinciding, then after the 8th day (Ashtami) or Rohini Nakshatra gets over, then the Vrat, fast can be broken.
